I would like everyones thoughts on this article I found
Ouija Boards, Depression and Demonic Possession by Tony Starkey http://www.ufodigest.com/news/0508/goodnews.html There has long been discussions about good versus evil and if God has anything to do with it. I will delve into this delicate topic but first I need to mention that I am not a Biblical scholar, associated with any church, or hold any degrees concerning Biblical research. The references used herein have all been taken from the King James Version unless otherwise noted. Below you will find my Christian opinion on this topic. "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels." Rev 12:7 The battle lines are clearly drawn with the good guys on one side and evil on the other. Special attention is taken in showing that "the old dragon", Satan, has his own beings. "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." Rev. 12:9 The verse above shines light on the entire subject of good versus evil. John, which authored the book of Revelation, Uses four terms to describe Satan, each one more demoralizing than the last to show us how low Satan is. He also tells us of his angels, though be it dark angels, we call them demons or inhuman are also among us. The devil was once a high ranking angel in heaven, but his jealousy of God is what got him bound to eternal damnation. He, in short, wanted to be God. Satan is smart and we learn that deception is his main weapon; his goal is to wear us down and have us do his will which is pure evil. Deception is believed to be how possession occurs. The Ouija board, for instance, is commonly used as a game or a way to communicate with a deceased loved one. Often times I believe demons lay in wait to see the vulnerability of the user and deceive them by answering correctly. While the believer is convinced that a loved one is talking to them, the demon slowly works his way into the person eventually gaining full control of their physical being. The Ouija board is not the only way this happens though. Depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and even drug use is believed to be possible features demons look for to begin their work. Possession does not happen over night but over a period of time. Slowly the demon will test the waters of their subject and as the person gets more and more comfortable, the entity applies more and more pressure until complete self control is lost. In the book of Luke chapter 4 Jesus is tempted by the devil three different times over a forty day period. First the devil tells Jesus to turn a stone into bread, secondly he promises Christ all the kingdoms in the world, and third he tells Jesus to jump from the pinnacle of a temple and see if His angels save Him. All Jesus had to do was bow down to Lucifer, but Christ knows how the devil is and He knows His Father and He knew Satan would work harder against Him. This is the devil tempting the Son of God so just imagine how Satan tempts us, the son of man. "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt Worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve" Luke 4:8 The reason I quoted this verse is because I have heard it argued that invoking the name of Jesus will not help in an inhuman or demonic haunt. I can not agree with that argument. "Yet Michael the archangel, contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee" Jude: 9 Michael knows how powerful the devil is, after all he cast him from heaven but he stills calls on The Lord for help when he is tempted by the devil. When Satan accused Moses of being a murderer, Michael asked The Lord to rebuke him. RE: Ouija Boards, Depression and Demonic Possession
My thoughts on use of a Ouija board are probably bias due to my religious upbringing. I feel that they are a tool for evil energies. That aside I will share an experience I had a few years back. I was renting a house in Sheridan which became too costly for me so I started looking at other places. I went to view a small house that I did know at the time had been a sight for a murder or suicide (don't remember which one) and had been said to have been haunted. I was a little nervous but thought if I didn't have any bad feeling about the house then it would be okay to rent. I walked through the upstairs and felt okay and excited about how it would look with a little paint job. Even the room where the lady died didn't give me any feelings. It had a basement/root cellar that you entered from the kitchen. I thought it would be great storage area. But, when I grabbed ahold of the door knob I got an erie feeling. The further I ventured down the stairs the more forboding it became. I felt that something really evil was down in that basement. I couldn't even make it further than a couple of steps down and I turned around. I told the lady thank you for your time but there was "something" wrong with the basement area and I wasn't interested in renting the home. I later talked to my son, who knew of the house's history, and told him what I felt. He said he wasn't surprised and had hidden the fact from me that the basement had been a location where several of the local kids had used it for Ouija board activity. To me it then made sense why there was such an evil feeling about it. So much evil that I just couldn't make myself go down into it. Of course...... that is my opinion and not fact.
Depression is so overwhelming that I can see that also being an "opening" for evil energy because a person is vulnerable, weak, and an easy target. I feel that is why we have such a high suicide rate. I don't know about possession, but there is the power of suggestion whether it is good or evil. |

RE: Ouija Boards, Depression and Demonic Possession
This is very interesting! First a little background since faith is intertwined in this post: I was raised Christian, but began learning about other faiths when I was in highschool. When I was able to afford books, I purchased them obsessively on the topics of spirituality, religion, non-religion, the afterlife. In the end I came to the same conclusion as Gandhi, "...that all religions were true and also that all had some error in them, and whilst I hold by my own, I should hold others as dear as Hinduism".
I've lost a lot of people in my immediate family as I was growing up and had some interesting experiences. Hearing voices, seeing auras of non-existent people in the dark, I also used to see light around peoples coffins in the viewing room, etc. Eventually it came to the point where I knew that a person was going to die soon. I also had a pre-birth experience that shapes a lot of what I believe to be true. Even though I hate labels - I am now a Baha'i, which is the only faith I have found that fits so closely to what I personally believe. I do not personally believe in demons or even Satan (as actual beings). The Bible I take less literally, and more figuratively. "Evil" representing our attachments to this world and the antithesis of "Godly virtues" (greed, self-centeredness, hatred).. taking us away from God, away from spirit. I see hell as distance from God. The more spiritually evolved we are, the closer we get to Him. Just a different perspective! :-) I have personally used the ouija board (as we all have!), moreso dabbling in automatic writing. I have never had a scary experience. I have occasionally come across a disgruntled spirit but it seems that if you pay no mind to it, or don't fear it - it just gets annoyed and goes away. I have also had other spirits come into the conversation when I was talking to a "cranky" spirit and tell it to go away or leave me alone. You can sense/feel the energy of the entity when you're speaking to it. An euphoric feeling (of pure joy) will rush through you when a friend or family member comes through (even before it says a thing) and a dull, blah, energy draining feeling comes when a cranky spirit comes in. I do not take everything that transpires at face value. Just as you said, the spirit could just be bored and playing with you/deceiving you. The first time I did automatic writing, the pen slowly scribbled "Papa love papa". I had no idea who "papa" was since I never met my father, but after relaying the information to my grandmother she said "That is what you used to call your grandfather!". He died when I was almost two. I've never heard from him again, but this still makes me smile. :-) I can definitely see the ouija taking some people to bad places. Especially if they are depressed initially or if they attach too much to it. I think if you're in a negative mindset or in a bad place you will definitely attract lesser evolved spirits. Like attracts like. It's too bad that the Parker Brother ouija board's sold at Walmart don't come with a handbook - instead of the small folded piece of paper of instructions! I think most faiths discourage the practice of talking to spirits (like my own), it's more important that we work on OUR own lives and our own souls in this lifetime. But it is comforting for the little acknowledgment that after death, life does in fact go on. |

RE: Ouija Boards, Depression and Demonic Possession
I just won't use them in investigations, they would be to hard to prove or disprove that the people weren't moving the pointer on the board. It is just something our group won't use in any of our Investigations
