Haunted Yellowstone
OK so it wasn't really Yellowstone but close enough. While staying at Eagle Creek Campground in Gardiner last week, my friend and I heard numerous hoof stomps outside our tent. Upon inspection there was no horses around. This occured only when we were alone at the campground. The site was occupied from the middle archaic period about 8000 years ago and in the early 1900's it was a mining site. I don't know what we heard but you could hear the hoofs walking around the tent and there was nothing there. He got so scared that he made me go back outside to get him my big 10" K-Bar knife. LOL There are supposedly many more sites around Yellowstone that are haunted too. There was a book written on the same topic.

RE: Haunted Yellowstone
I have the book "Yellowstone Ghost Stories" by Shellie Larios. I didn't see any reference to that camp site though. It mostly talks about the lake and different lodges, etc. That is such a cool experience you guys had. Last time I camped there......the camp site just inside the gate from Gardiner.. I was with my mom and youngest son. I was freaked out worrying about bears. That was the first time I had camped in the park in a tent. I didn't want to be a "wiener in a blanket" for some bear. I wasn't into paranormal investigations yet either so if I had heard something I would have been worrying about it being the bear thing. Now I want to go to that camp ground you are talking about.

RE: Haunted Yellowstone
LOL, The Mammoth campground is lame. The view from Eagle Creek is awesome. We camped there during field school this summer and I spent 45 days straight camping. It was nice being the T/A because the school provided us with our own transportation i.e. "Ford Expedition XL" during the breaks! Including gas!!! I went everywhere.

RE: Haunted Yellowstone
Sounds like you had a good deal going on. I could handle 45 days of camping (if the bears keep away LOL). I'll have to check Eagle Creek out for next year. I just used my extra days off for Labor Day going to see my son in Colorado. It was great..... just too short visit time and loooooonnnngg driving time. Besides I'm a wimp and it is getting cold around here, especially at night.

RE: Haunted Yellowstone
You need a -25 to -40 degree sleeping bag and a XXL Alps Mountaineering sleeping mat. The mat adds like 20-30 degrees to your bag. It is super thick and super comfortable. I actually didn't have the bag closed one night that it went down to 36 degrees using my -25 bag and the L Alps mat. the mat added 15 degrees to my bag and kept me warm all night.

RE: Haunted Yellowstone
Do you get that mat at any sports shop or do I have to look for a specialty store?
