Equipment List
I wonder if we could get a recommended equipment list put together. Maybe breakdown by brands/models/cost for the basics.. EMF, DVR, Digital Camera, Video Camera, etc. in one thread for reference.

Thoughts?

RE: Equipment List
I think hanji's idea is a good one including the break down on best brands, etc. that way as I am filling my wish list I can get what is recommended by you guys. I would like one of those proton packs/ ghost trap as long as I don't have to wear the jump suit. :icon_rolleyes:What is your recommendation for dig. thermometer?

RE: Equipment List
Anyone have any good / bad experiences with any particular digital audio recorder? I've been looking at a few in radioshack, but want to know if there are any brands to stay away from.

RE: Equipment List
as long as it can record and you can get the audio off of it then I would say use it. The mre it cost most likely the better it is, it is up to you on how good you get but remember when you are being run over by Kris you could drop when he is scared by a ghost.

RE: Equipment List
I bought a hand held mike @ radio shack to use with the dig recorder I had. Not happy with it. I get a ot of noise. Thought it was just me but son had it @ the cemetery and when we reviewed, still noise.. Will try without it next time. anyone else have trouble with hand held mikes?

RE: Equipment List
what kind of noise? Wind through the mic head or noise from your hand being in contact with the handle? Cheaper mics will have problems with both. You want a good metal handle mic or you might be able to put a wind screen on it. I'm guessing this is a 1/4" plug with adapter that goes to 1/8" on the recorder?

RE: Equipment List
Thumping, garble, some wind noise. Rough listening. It is a cheaper mic with plastic handle with the adapter...only one the had in Brigham City radio shack. I'll try without it next time. When Craig was asking questions he was able to hold it still enough that it was fairly quiet.......so it still might be okay until we get something better. Thanks for the info, Hanji.

RE: Equipment List
Yeah.. that's rough. I would stick with a digital voice recorder with built in mic possibly instead. If you absolutely need to get a external mic.. I like to use Shure SM57.. they're work horses, built tough, and sound good. They're under $100, which still might be too much.. and I've never used them for EVP work (not yet). These mics also use XLR inputs.. so you'd need to convert XLR to 1/8" jack.

Another option with a noisy mic is to use a spider mount (or shock mount).... so your hand is not directly on the mic.
